Topic Map™ technology is a new semantic approach for information representation, management and navigation gaining increasing popularity. In order to realise and exploit the potentials of this new technology, the need for software development to manage TM is indispensable. In the context of this paper, we have attempted to outline some key factors, regarding the level of functionality that an integrated TM software application tool should provide. Consequently, keeping in touch with the main design principles, a software application tool (ATop) for efficient TM editing, browsing, navigation, management and querying has been designed, implemented and tested with encouraging results.
