Putting Topic Maps to REST

Article, was published by David Damen and Maria Patriksson at 2010-09-30

This paper introduces rest-tm, a speci cation for a topic map engine that fully conforms to the constraints of REST.

We introduce rest-tm, a speci cation for a topic map engine that fully conforms to the constraints of REST. Rest-tm meets the need of several use cases for topic maps identified in the ULLISE project, where topic maps are used to describe space experiments from various scientific disciplines. The design supports different granularity levels in topic map interaction, and o ers solutions for resources in terms of versioning, navigation, querying and representation. We describe the resources provided by rest-tm to access topic map constructs, and touch upon the available media types that can be used to describe these.

Nowadays Topic Maps appears to be very suitable for being applied in Libraries, Archives and Museums. It provides a suitable model and mechanisms for depth indexing, classification and the implementation of FRBR, CIDOC-CRM or other conceptualizations.
