This implementation of a CTM Writer provides the core functionality of exporting every topic map to CTM. The main benefits of the CTM writer are:
- The code of the CTM writer is completely open source and can be modified
- The CTM writer works on top of the TMAPI and is independent of the real topic map engine implementation ( works with Ontopia, tinyTim etc. )
- The CTM writer supports the partial serialization of topic map fragments ( topics, associations etc. )
- The CTM writer supports additional features like prefix- and template-detection

CTM is the abbreviation for Topic Maps Compact Syntax. CTM is defined by ISO 13250-6, that is, part 6 of the Topic Maps standard. It’s a textual notation to describe topic maps.
Topic Maps helped us not only to overcome the difficulties with information organization, but they also opened us a way for presenting the content in a structured and easy navigable way.
